Tony Saunders
Optometrist
I have been the Principal Optometrist at Pagan & McQuade in Hartlepool for over 14 years now so a lot of my clients have become more like friends. I like spending the time to be thorough in my eye examinations so that I can make recommendations with confidence in the knowledge that I have really understood my client’s needs. Being a spectacle wearer myself over many years means I have a full understanding of what it’s like to undergo an eye examination. My clients tell me that they enjoy coming to see me. That’s very gratifying.

Joanna Thomas
Dispensing Optician and Practice Manager
I have been a Dispensing Optician for over 25 years with Pagan & McQuade and have managed the Hartlepool branch for 14 years. I have a contact lens fitting qualification too.
I love choosing spectacle frames and I am entirely responsible for all the frames in the practice. More than that, I love to help our clients choose frames that make them look great and be confident in their appearance, in addition to seeing really well through their bespoke lenses. I think that our clients know that my advice is enthusiastic, honest and always in their best interests.
Karen Davies
Deputy Manager
It’s a great place to work here which is why I’ve been here for over 14 years and I know my colleagues feel the same. I have an Optical Assistant Diploma qualification from Anglia Ruskin University so I hope I can say I know about Optics. I am also a long term spectacle wearer and whilst needing spectacles is not a requirement to work here at Pagan & McQuade, I am sure it is helpful because it allows me to understand what it is like for clients when they first discover they have a need for spectacles. My own spectacles are fantastic because I like how they look, they allow me to see properly at all distances and they keep tired eyes away which is a benefit of spectacles that not everyone is aware of.

Jayne Malcolmson
Optical Assistant
I have been a part of the team here at Pagan & McQuade for over 20 years so I am the longest serving member of the team here in Hartlepool. I have an Optical Assistant Diploma from Anglia Ruskin University. I am regularly asked optical questions by our clients when out and about in town. It’s a real pleasure to continue to meet such nice people through my work and I have now provided eyecare advice for several generations of local families. I really feel part of it here.
Barbara Taylor
Optical Assistant
I have been with Pagan & McQuade for over 10 years now. I have an Optical Assistant Diploma from Anglia Ruskin University. I joined Pagan & McQuade from another opticians and noticed straight away the family atmosphere in the branch and the commitment to constantly improving our customer service which continues to this day. The level of training I have received at Pagan & McQuade is of a far higher standard than in my previous Opticians job. I really enjoy being part of an Opticians that gets to know their clients so well and is so good at fulfilling their optical requirements in a really friendly & comfortable environment.
